Ashish...
Ashish began his musical career under the capable guidance of the greatly respected South African teacher Jeram Bhana. He underwent four years of training in the classical form of the art under Mr Bhana, whilst he continued to play at religious gatherings for his spiritual group RISHI (Ramakrishna Institute of Spirituality and Hinduism). At age 17 he teamed up with Marc Duby, Greg Georgiades and Priyesh Bhana to perform in the world music genre quartet "Aavaaz". A few years later he and Greg formed the duo 'Strings 'and Skins' and in 1999 recorded their first album under that title. Strings 'an Skins soon became a well known duo and have had well received collaborations with other artists and bands. Ashish has recordings on rock band Not My Dog's album 'Braai Vibes', Tony Cox's 'China' and Prime Circles' latest album "Live This Life". Ashish has also accompanied on stage various artists ranging from North Indian classical Sitarists to rock improvisationalists including artists such as Steve Newman, the treasured Gito Baloi, Neo Muyanga, DJ Bob, The Blunted Stuntman, Madala Kunene, Rob Watson, Barry Van Zyl and McCoy Mrubata, to name a few, during his 19 years of performance.
On an international note, Ashish as performed at the prestigious Villa Celimontana Jazz Festival in Rome, Italy, and has performed with international musicians Bob Brosman (USA) and Rene Lacaille (Mauritius) in South Africa @ Tings 'an Times!
Ashish continues to dazzle audiences with his ever-improving innovative percussive technique on the Tabla, Djembe, Darbukah and Dhol and can be seen at various festivals around the country. This young man has great talent and will in time be a feature of this diverse country.
